At Gorseinon Primary School all staff strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils. The National Curriculum is our starting point for planning that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of pupils. When planning, teachers set suitable learning challenges and respond to pupil’s diverse learning needs. Some pupils have barriers to learning that means they have additional learning needs that are different from their peers and require particular action by the school.
At times, your child may experience some barriers and receive additional catch-up reading and numeracy support as deemed necessary by your child’s class teacher in line with class differentiation.
Additionally, at times your child may receive some more specialist additional support that can be met through our Universal Provision. This is a provision that we can implement in school after identification. This could include:
Literacy support (sounds, phonics, key words, writing techniques, oracy skills)
Thrive (Emotional Developmental Needs)
Coordination (Developmental Coordination Disorder)
Speech (Phonological awareness, speech sounds, articulation, and delayed speech development.)
Language (Understanding the use of language in areas such as concepts, verb tenses, vocabulary, narrative, inference, and negatives.)
Should your child require more specialised support then we have several agencies that we can refer your child to for additional advice and support. If we feel this is required, we will discuss this with you beforehand and seek your consent for a referral to be made.
On occasions your child may experience prolonged difficulties, and after advice has been sought and implemented then it may be necessary to hold a decision-making process meeting to see what else could be put in place to further support your child, this could be in the form of an IDP (Individualised Developmental Plan.) This is in line with the new Additional Learning Needs and Educational Tribunal Act (ALNET 2018)
