Additional Learning Needs (ALN) at Gorseinon
At Gorseinon, we are committed to ensuring all learners are supported to achieve their full potential. We take a graduated, inclusive approach to meeting Additional Learning Needs (ALN), working closely with pupils, parents/carers, and external agencies.
Universal Provision
High-quality teaching is the foundation of our ALN support. All pupils benefit from inclusive classroom practice, well-planned lessons, and a supportive learning environment that meets a wide range of needs.
Differentiated Teaching
Teachers adapt learning activities, resources, and teaching approaches to meet individual needs. This ensures pupils can access the curriculum at an appropriate level and make progress in line with their abilities.
Intervention Groups
Targeted intervention groups are used to provide additional support where needed. These may focus on areas such as literacy, numeracy, communication, social skills, or emotional wellbeing and are reviewed regularly to ensure they are effective.
Enhanced Learning Provision
Some pupils may require enhanced support beyond universal and targeted provision. This support is carefully planned and may include specialist strategies, additional adult support, or tailored programmes to help pupils succeed.
Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
For pupils with identified ALN, an Individual Development Plan (IDP) is created in partnership with parents/carers, pupils, and relevant professionals. IDPs outline strengths, needs, targets, and the support required, and are reviewed regularly to ensure progress.
Open Door Policy
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. We operate an open-door policy and encourage families to discuss any concerns or questions about their child’s learning or wellbeing at any time.

The school’s Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) is Ms A Woozley, who oversees ALN provision across the school and works closely with staff, families, and external services to ensure pupils receive the support they need
